I¡¯m always proud of living in Wudang Mountains. Wudang Shan is one of the sacred lands for Chinese Taoism(Daoism). In western entertainment circle, Wu Tang Clan has been early celebrated, but no many have realized the name Wu Tang was a result of the enlightment of the ancient Wu Dang tales.
Gong Fu in Chinese sound system is nothing but the Romanized word Kung Fu. Accordingly, Wu Dang and Wu Tang is the same. Long long time before the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Wudang Shan was esteemed by Chinese people, especially in the Ming Dynasty, it was nationwide regarded as a holly mountain for royal praying and folks as well.
When people talk about Taoism or Daoism,. They probably think of it as a religion. But actually there is a fork way here: we must view and talk about it phylosophically and religiously, at least in Wudang Mountains, we should take such an attitude. Wudang Kung Fu has been largely linked with Taoism as a phylosophy.
Wudang Kung Fu is sometimes referred as Wudang Quan. Generally speaking, Wudang style can be categoried into internal martial arts. Since it is related to Taoism, it is also called Taoist (Daoist )Kung Fu.
It does not matter whether you use Gongfu, Gong Fu, Kungfu, or Kung Fu. One thing is certain: if you want to learn this internal art either for the sake of wellness (wellbeing) or application, you must put your heart into it/. Just as the English proverb says: where there is a will, there is a way. Here in Mt. Wudang, there is a saying: Tiechu mocheng zhen, gong dao ziran cheng!
If you want to grind the iron pole into a needle, you must make full use of your Gong Fu!
